Danny Stygion was born in Victorville,
CA, 1980. A year later he moved to Tokyo, Japan where he would spend the
next 5 years. Danny's father was a contractor for the Air Force, so after
Tokyo, he would find himself going to Los Angeles, San Pedro, Long Beach
and even the islands of Kaui and Oahu. In 1999 he finally moved to Houston
where he currently resides.
At the age of 15, going to the theaters he saw the movie 'Seven' by David Fincher and was immediately drawn by the concept and tone that the movie established. The effect he noticed that it had on the audience was overwhelming and revolting. The ability of that film to hold sway the emotions of the audience was something strangely alluring and powerful. From that point, he embarked on what some can describe as the side of art and film embraced with a darker edge. He studied the film works of David Fincher, Stanley Kubrick, and Stan Brakhage as well as the photography of Robert Frank and Davide Sorrenti. These influential figures began to shape his focus and culled a vision from which he could establish his own unique style into those mediums. From this he wrote several short screenplays as well as shooting some early photographs; an experiment into the use of light and shadow. He borrowed a friend's DV camera and began to experiment with abstract themes in order to understand how to create the balance he wanted to achieve in his later works. Early works were created while living in an art-deco warehouse in Houston's east side. From here he shot several pieces with contributing models focusing on certain aspects of fetishism and erotica. He also became involved in the electronic music counter culture where his roommates the band 'Audio Stellar Hynoptic Situations' or 'A>S>H>S' and the Briokids who would regular host underground all night events in the warehouse. From one of these events, he would meet Kerry Toorcana, who later became a contributing artist and co-producer in Stygion Corp, a company he founded in 2001. After producing several shorts, Stygion Corp. went on to a short-lived project managing models, but the project was terminated because it took away from the integral focus of the video and photography that made Stygion. In the early part of 2003, Stygion also developed the highly acclaimed 'Desire' event with the world's #1 fetish model Dita Von Teese (www.dita.net). The event was a huge success and established Stygion firmly within the fetish and art community. In 2004, Danny's images of erotic fetish DJ Portia Surreal were published in top fetish fashion magazines Skin Two and Marquis magazine. In 2005, he photographed the Hungry Man ad campaign featuring NFL players: Jeremy Shockey, Warren Sapp, and Clinton Portis. His work with them was featured on ICOM. Danny Stygion has shown a rare, steadfast attitude and determination to explore the depths of whatever mediums he chooses whether it be video, photography, or event management.
